Coffee; the elixir of life

As a student, with demanding courses, I have a pretty busy and scheduled weekends. I sleep in Fridays but come rain, storms, or whatever by 4 PM I'm in the library studying. Beside the other nerds hitting the books alongside me, our only companion is coffee.

Coffee makes everything possible. Coffee never makes you feel like a loser. I love coffee and I know it loves me back.

I drink unsweetend black coffee, and a good brew is hard to find. I like the house blend from starbucks but I don't love it. My days off are spent in search of the perdect blend of coffee.

What's your favourite coffeeshop/blend in Kuwait?

The Pursuit of Happiness

I have been writing ever since I can remember. I decided to start blogging yesterday morning while driving aimlessly. I have realized after attending an exhibit that I haven't genuinely smiled in a long time.

Living in Kuwait these days is all about appearances. I am sorry to say that I live in an extremely empty and shallow society. Progress is measured not by what you have accomplished, but with what you own. I sit with my girlfriends and all they talk about is the current fashion, what nail spa to go to, and what new brand is "in" now. The couple of the guyfriends I have speak about girls, sex and, yes!, fashion.

I see girls trying to balance out fashion, traditions, religion, and failing miserably. Yes, you can be Muslim and fashionable but NO you cannot wear anything anywhere. People refuse to admit it but there actually ARE limits to observe. On the other hand, boys are so generic, you mistake them all for each other with their tiny waists and pumped out, unnatural muscles. If you've been to any mall on the weekend you've probably seen what I'm talking about.

I take a book with me sometimes and sit at a coffee shop, alone with my music, and read. When I look up from my book, I see people so engrossed in being "normal" and "perfect" they lost the most important thing in life; they lost their individuality. I look around and all I see is carbon-copies of people.

Being unique is what is special about people. Reality is relative to each person. and every person should live and express his/her reality without fear of anything or anyone. Society dictates the norms but WE are society.

A very wise professor told me a couple of years ago that if you want to taboo anything in an Arab society, make it female or claim that it breaks traditions. I agree. People in Kuwait tend to say "we've come a long way from the past" but once you strip away the glitter, peel society and expose its core, we have regressed to the dark ages.

These are my two cents for this night, If you read this, leave a comment and let me know what you think ;)
